About the Event
Celebrate Good Friday with an intimate and breathtaking choral performance by Luminous Voices, Calgary's professional chamber choir, on April 18, 2025, at 7:30 PM. Held at the beautiful Bella Concert Hall, this concert, titled "Lamentations," brings together monumental works from some of classical music's most revered composers. The evening opens with Knut Nystedt's homage to Bach, *Komm ssser Tod*. Next, audiences will be captivated by Thomas Tallis's stunning *Lamentations of Jeremiah I*, a masterwork of Renaissance choral music.
Continuing their tradition of performing Bach motets, which began in 2013, Luminous Voices will present the iconic *Jesu Meine Freude*, showcasing 11 movements of chorales, choruses, and intricate solo trios. The concert concludes with Herbert Howells' *Requiem*, a deeply introspective and contemplative piece that highlights the choir's signature vocal harmonies and exquisite artistry.
Special guest performers include Janet Kuschak on cello and Wendy Markosky on organ, adding rich instrumental textures to the program. This event promises to be an unforgettable evening of profound musical expression and reflection, perfectly suited to the solemnity of Good Friday.
Tickets are available now, and the performance will take place on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy and other Indigenous peoples of the Treaty 7 region, known as Moh-kns-tsis in the Blackfoot language. Don't miss this opportunity to experience choral music at its finest with Luminous Voices.
