About the Event

Join the Town of York Historical Society for their annual fundraiser, "Banned & Brewed: A History of Beer & Temperance in Toronto," on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Campbell House Museum. This captivating event celebrates Toronto's 191st birthday while supporting the preservation of the city's rich history.

The evening will feature a keynote presentation by beer expert Jordan St. John, author of "Lost Breweries of Toronto" and host of the Ontario Craft Beer Guide Podcast. Guests can delve into the fascinating history of beer and the temperance movement in Toronto, while sampling local craft beers.

In addition to the keynote, the event will include a virtual silent auction, the Old Town Silent Auction, with a variety of exciting items up for bid. A photo booth provided by Snaptique will be available for capturing fun memories. Food and drink, including small bites, non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine, will be available for purchase. Complimentary tea and coffee will also be provided. Food and drink tickets can be purchased in advance at a reduced rate. Please note that drink vouchers do not apply to visiting craft brewers; their beers will be sold separately at the event.

This year, the event offers both in-person and virtual ticket options. Virtual tickets provide access to the main presentation, keynote speaker, and silent auction, but do not grant entry to the on-site event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with opening remarks beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event is a wonderful opportunity to support Toronto's First Post Office and the Town of York Historical Society while enjoying an enriching evening of history, community, and craft brews.
