Uxbridge Farmer's Market - A Refreshing And Peaceful Experience
Updated: Nov 17, 2023
Winter is near the door, and as always we are looking for activities and experiences to keep the kids entertained. A friend of ours suggested that we visit Uxbridge Farmer's Market today as they were offering free face painting, a scavenger hunt and free pumpkins! We said - why not!
The market is located by the "Sharp Farm Supplies Ltd." in Uxbridge, Ontario. Full address is "14 Victoria Street, Uxbridge, ON".
Well, we were there only for an hour as kids needed to be at Pickering for their Ice Skating class in the afternoon. We liked the market in this short visit though. It is a nice, little market with about 30 stalls.
Kids got free pumpkin face painting which was cool. They also played a game of pumpkin ring toss and I have to admit that they did pretty well!

With all that, the weather was sunny and we definitely enjoyed the walk. Loved the live music. We stopped at few of the stalls that seemed interesting. You will always find something new and interesting in this type of environment where small businesses and vendors bring their best products that are sign of their innovative minds and hard work.
One of the most interesting stall was from "Mushroom Meadows" where a young man called Ryan was selling mushrooms. There were two different types of mushrooms - Pink Oyster and Blue Oyster mushrooms. We have never seen pink mushrooms before and it was cool. He was also selling a kit that you can use to grow these mushrooms in your house in room temperature. Marina likes mushrooms and she got the pink one; our girls chose the pink one for her, as you can imagine. We spent about 15 minutes learning about the process of growing it in our house.
The other new thing that I learned about and definitely plan to research on more is the health benefits of "Norway Spruce". The needles and sprouts are apparently full of Vitamin C and Antioxidants! I plan to write on this more in near future.

There was also a guy with a small colorful stall from "Hurt Berry Farm" selling his hot sauces and I saw that people were frequently stopping by and buying from him. Quite a popular product, it seems!
We also stopped by "Cosmo's Smoked Meat". I was specially interested as they were selling European style dairy products. Marina is from Spain, and I thought we might just find something that she might like.
There was a also a stall by Maple Grove Orchards with many colorful vegetables. We did not buy any, but took the opportunity to take some photos!
All in all, a nice experience.
