About the Event

"Mahabharata Part Two: Dharma: The Life We Choose" invites audiences to delve into the legendary epic's profound philosophical and political themes. Running from April 11 to April 27, 2025, at the Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto, this production continues the story of King Janamejaya, who learns of the devastating battle of Kurukshetra and the struggles to rebuild a fractured world. Through captivating projections, digital soundscapes, and poetic stage design, the play interrogates themes of justice, revenge, and the search for wholeness amidst division. A highlight of the performance is a 15-minute Sanskrit opera adaptation of the Bhagavad Gita, the Mahabharata's most famous chapter.

Audiences are also invited to "Khana & Kahani," a community meal and storytelling session held before select performances of Part Two, offering a deeper exploration of the Mahabharata's themes. Post-show talkbacks on April 15 and April 18 provide further insights, featuring cast members and creative minds Ravi Jain and Miriam Fernandes.

Directed by Ravi Jain and featuring stunning contributions from a talented creative team, this production is a collaboration between Canadian Stage and Why Not Theatre. Don't miss this epic theatrical experience that reimagines the Mahabharata for a modern audience.
